♥ or ❤? Text hearts vs emoji hearts
Text hearts (♥ (U+2665 BLACK HEART SUIT), ♡ (U+2661 WHITE HEART SUIT)) are plain characters, so they take the color of the text around them. Emoji hearts come in color, and each phone maker draws them its own way.
Some symbols exist as both plain text and emoji. ❤ (U+2764) can be drawn as a plain heart in the color of your text or as a full-color emoji. An invisible character right after it decides which: ️ (U+FE0F VARIATION SELECTOR-16) asks for the emoji look and ︎ (U+FE0E VARIATION SELECTOR-15) for the text look. That's why the same heart can look different from one app to another.
How to type a heart
On Windows, hold Alt and type 3 on the numeric keypad for ♥ (Alt+3). In HTML, ♥ gives ♥. On a Mac, open the Character Viewer (Fn/Globe + E) and search for heart.
